Perth, Australia: The Perth International Arts Festival 2004 took place from February 6th-29th. Upwards to 500,000 people attend the Festival to view over 1,000 performances. The Perth Festival, established in 1953, is the oldest international multi arts festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

Beijing, China: Cui Jian is the first musician to play authentice Chinese rock music. In receiving the Prince Claus Award last year presented to artists who expand the insight into culture and development, the jury stated: "With ample respect for Chinese culture and society, rock musician Cui Jian expresses the feelings of many youth in and outside his country. He uses elements of traditional Chinese poetry, and takes a stand against the exclusive influence of Western-inspired music."
Cui Jian plays extensively in China and tours throughout the world, including a 2001 European tour. His latest work, "Show Your Colours", is an experimental dance-musical produced in collaboration with Willy Tsao's Hong Kong Modern dance company.
