ILLUSTRATION

IRENE HWANG

Irene Hwang was born in Taiwan and moved to the United States in 1983. Irene began painting when she was four years old and chose illustration because of the freedom associated free-hand drawing. Her inspiration as an illustrator comes from Edward Gorey.

Using watercolors instead of pen and ink, Irene is able to obtain a vibrant perspective in her work. She chooses a broad range of subjects so that each subject allows for intuitive adventures.

Irene's work reflects the challenge of combining music, tales of the past, and the fleeting images that pass through our sleep into paintings. Her pieces are a mixture of the progressive rock movement of days past, the intangible realm of the Dream World, and elements of stories that has been with us since the dawn of man. For Irene, it is our obsession with the past that helps us resurrect something that is otherwise lost
