WAYQUAY

Tribal Grind album cover

TRIBAL GRIND

Wayquay, living with one foot in the past and one foot in the present, retraces the steps left by her Ancestors, communicating simplicity, sharing and honor. Her music and vision in uniquely American, bringing a message of empowerment and peace as reflected in the Native American experience.

Wayquay's music video, "Navigate", has won the best music video awards at the American Indian Film Festival and the Native American Music Awards. She has performed throughout the United States and Canada, including special appearances at the United Nations.

Wayquay photoRapping about freedom, personal and cultural, Wayquay navigates the murky waters of multicultural fusion. Pop, Native American singer/songwriter Wayquay emerges as something between a hip hop tribal chantress and a slinky medicine woman chanteuse. An Ojibway Indian, Wayquay, whose full name means "Lady Unafraid," fuses fast rap with an undertow of slow incessant drumming, building to an infectious stew of present-tense Pop and the timeless groove of nature's simple rhythms. The "Tribal Grind" sound is hypnotic."
