THE COCONUTHEADS

The Roots Side album cover

THE ROOTS SIDE

The Coconutheads music is a true Miami hybrid, welding a tropical American sensibility with Caribbean conventions. The group has made classic soca and reggae their own, seasoning it with the kind of mellow horns rarely heard in today's synthetic times. It's difficult to sit while listening to The Coconutheads original Caribbean sounds.

Their debut album, The Roots Side, features reggae-tinged melodies with up-tempo soca combining soul and calypso. Billboard calls the album quite intriguing, especially with the potential crossover hit in I-3Step.

The follow-up album to The Roots Side: "Quite a shaker. This release is a blend of tropical american rhtythms with carribean conventions, with a detour to a bit of soca, a hint of reggae...to make out quite a delightful musical dish." Rhythmic Fusion

"One of the best ways to survive the summer is to turn up the volume on some tropical musical product, and the Miami-based Coconutheads certainly do the trick." Thessa Mooij: Music & Media
