The Kumbha Mela: Part II
In Allahabad the three holy rivers the Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible, mystical Saraswati converge and host seers, saints, mystics, hermits and aspirants of spiritual knowledge. For the saints, bathing in the holy rivers absorbs the energy that radiates from the other holy men and cleanses the burdens of the merits gained through spiritual practices. For the pilgrims, bathing purifies the body and soul.
The 2001 Kumbha Mela was the largest spiritual gathering in history. Many people planned the trip to Allahabad for years and traveled for days to get there, not only to bath but also to gain wisdom from the holy men and to celebrate Hindu spirituality.
