The sixth edition of the World Social Forum was polycentric, or decentralized, taking place simultaneously in different parts of the world in January 2006. Three cities will host the 6th WSF: Bamako (Mali-Africa), Caracas (Venezuela – Americas) and Karachi (Pakistan-Asia).
The major themes developed in Bamako were:
1. War and Militarism-Security and Peace.
2. Globalized liberalism.
3. Aggressions against peasantry.
4. Alliance between patriarchal and neo liberalism systems, and marginalisation of women’s fight.
5. Culture, Media and Communication.
6. Destruction of ecosystems, biological diversity, and resources control.
7. International order, including discussions of the role of the United Nations.
8. International trade, debt and economic and social policies.
9. Social fights, social and human rights, social organisations, and political rights.
10. Alternatives.
In Caracas the agenda included:
1. Power, politics and you fight for the social emancipation.
2. Imperial strategies and resistances of the peoples(villages).
3. Diversities, identities and cosmovisiones in movement.
4. Work, exploitation (development) and reproduction.
5. Communication, cultures and education: dynamics and alternatives.
In Karachi, the topics included:
1. Imperialism, Militarization and Armed Conflicts in the Region and Peace Movements.
2. Natural Resources Rights, Peoples’ Control & Privatization, and Trans-Boundary Disputes.
3. Trade Development and Globalization.
4. Social Justice, Human Rights and Governance.
5. State and Religion, Pluralism and Fundamentalism.
6. Nation, Nationalities and Ethnic & Cultural Identities.
7. Development Strategies, Poverty, Unemployment and Displacement.
8.Peoples’ Movements and Alternative Strategies.
9. Women, Patriarchy and Social Change.
10. Environment, Ecology and Livelihoods.
